Welcome - Mary Ann, The City Cousin

Welcome to our blog. It has been a long time coming, but it is finally a reality. You are invited in to share our tips, tricks and insights that have taken us decades to learn and discover.

I want to thank all my friends who have had to hear, “We should launch soon,” ad nauseum.Your patience is deeply appreciated. In particular, I want to thank my housemate, Patricia, who has had to endure late or repetitive meals because I either had to get the last photograph right or I got carried away with preparing a dish and forgot to photograph it and had to make the dish again. And then, there were the nights I didn’t cook at all because I was working on the blog. She also got to listen to a lot of grumbling and, at times, screaming as I grappled with new technology necessary to this endeavor.

I also want to thank a woman I consider my mentor in at least two major projects over the years. Robin poked me for over 2 years to write a cooking blog but I always resisted. Once I acquiesced, she always asked how it was coming and almost always had some words of wisdom or something for me to read to help me on my way.

Of course, there is also Terry, our blogmaster. I don’t know if we would have ever got this thing off the ground if it weren’t for her. Her patience and calm demeanor, particularly when faced with two aging (and, at times, loudly frustrated) technophobes was amazing.

Finally, there is my cousin, Fran. Yes, she really is my cousin. Our mothers are sisters. I could not have done this without her. I would not have done this without her. As Gypsy Rose Lee used to say, “You gotta have a gimmick,” and Fran is mine. As I pondered this project, I wanted it to be more than just a cooking blog. She provided that something extra. And here we are. After being apart for almost 40 years, we have reunited and I am amazed at how comfortable it feels. Its almost as if we have always been together and, in some sense, I believe we have.

So here we are. Gardener, cook, food preserver, writers and now you, the reader. Visit us often and, above all else, have some fun with us. Because after all, if you can’t have a little fun once in a while, what’s the point?
