Garden Daybook 5/21/12

I found this cicada exoskeleton on a foxglove this afternoon. Wow! It seems early in the season to find the shells. This cicada wintered underground as a nymph, emerged to cling on the foxglove,  moulted or split its skin, emerged as an adult, flew off and left behind this beautiful shell.

Then – – – Greg found this tiny frog clinging to the side of our rain barrel. It always amazes me when I realize how many creatures share “our” space.
Two wonders in one day!
