Garden Daybook 5/5/12

Did you see her? She was gorgeous! La lune. Der mond. Lua. La bella luna. She hit my eye like a big pizza pie! I always wanted to use that line! We were told that she would be a Super Moon and she was.

At first, I noticed her spreading light coloring the darkening sky to the east. I looked away, looked back, and bam! There she was! Huge and shining, almost glossy bright. I practically needed sun glasses to look straight at her. It was a suck in your breath moment.

We were lucky to have two table top telescopes set up. As the moon rose and spread her light over the night sky, and on us below, we had better than bare eye views of the moons surface. We watched clouds drift between us and the moon. We listened to a pack of coyotes howling in the woods. Oooohh! The perfect sounds for a super moonlit night!

As if all that wasn’t enough, I pressed my eye against the telescope lens again and saw, backlit by the light of that super sized moon, a jet followed by a black trail of exhaust. It sped through the moonlight and disappeared into the darkness. It was an ET moment! To be truthful, in that split second when I first became aware of the movement of the jet, my mind told me it was a huge goose flying through the light. But, wait a minute, what is that chasing the goose? Duh! It’s a jet and its exhaust! Wow! What a perfect evening.

In Napoli where love is king
When boy meets girl here’s what they say

When the moon hits you eye like a big pizza pie
That’s amore
When the world seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine
That’s amore
Bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you’ll sing “Vita bella”
Hearts will play tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay
Like a gay tarantella

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool
That’s amore
When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You’re in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you’re not
Dreaming signore
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli
That’s amore
