Dressed Up Box Stuffing

As you may know by now, I am not averse to short cuts or using something already prepared to start and then make it mine. This is one of those dishes.

Dressed Up Box Stuffing

  • 1 box chicken stuffing mix (you can use turkey if its Thanksgiving)
  • ½ lb breakfast sausage
  • ½ cup chopped celery
  • ½ cup frozen chopped onions (or, if you must, chop your own and cry)
  • broth (chicken for chicken stuffing, turkey for turkey stuffing…you get the idea)

Brown the breakfast sausage in a frying pan, crumbling with a wooden spoon or other implement. Drain and set aside.
Lightly saute the chopped onions. You can use the same pan and any reduction that may have accumulated. After all, why throw all that flavor out?
Dice the celery.
Prepare the stuffing mix according to package instructions but I recommend using broth instead of water for extra flavor. Place stuffing mix in a oven safe bowl or casserole. Add the the breakfast sausage, sauteed onions and celery (not sauteed for a little crunch). Cover with foil and bake in a preheated 350º oven, bake for about 30 or 40 minutes or until heated through. Then get ready for the yummmms!
